Siegfreid Scores Highest Ranking on Kansas Economic Freedom Index Legislative Scorecard
Voice For Liberty Wichita recently released it Kansas Economic Freedom Index, an evaluation of State Legislators on eight key votes during the 2010 legislative session. Rep. Siegfreid received a 95% rating which tied for the highest "pro-liberty" percentage among House members. Siegfreid Authors Tax Simplification Bill
TOPEKA—Rep. Arlen Siegfreid (R-Olathe) today testified before the House Taxation Committee supporting a bill he’s sponsoring to establish the Simplified State Tax Structure Committee. The measure, HB 2463, would assemble a panel of legislators and Kansas economists tasked with creating a fair, simple and effective tax code.

Rep. Siegfreid Records Nearly Flawless Voting Record
TOPEKA – Representative Arlen Siegfreid (R-Olathe) today commented on his 99.7% voting record during the 2009 Legislative Session. Rep. Siegfreid recorded a perfect attendance record and missed only one vote.
“I’ve always worked hard to maintain a diligent voting record,” he said. “That means casting some very difficult votes—but I was elected to represent our families and communities and that’s part of it.”

Rep. Siegfreid Opposes School Closures
TOPEKA- Speaker Pro Tem Arlen Siegfried (R-Olathe) today expressed disappointment in response to last week’s executive order from Governor Sebelius, establishing the Facilities Closure and Realignment Commission.
The order, as specifically stated, seeks to eliminate essential programs for many at-risk citizens in Kansas. Among the programs to be potentially affected by the commission are the Kansas School for the Deaf, and the Kansas School for the Blind. Both Kansas City institutions are two of the only places where students are currently able to receive specialized care and instruction.
“We face a tremendously difficult set of budget decisions in the next few years. While there is sure to be pain across the board, I find it particularly disturbing that the first group of citizens the Governor chose to attack are some of our most vulnerable,” Rep. Siegfreid said.

Arlen Siegfreid Elected Speaker Pro-Tem
State Representative Arlen Siegfreid was elected Speaker Pro-Tem of the Kansas House of Representatives. The election puts him in one of the top leadership positions in the House, a significant accomplishment for Siegfreid, who was recently elected to his 4th term by the voters of the 15th District. "I am extremely gratified by my colleagues' trust in me with this tremendous honor. I pledge to work with the other leaders to ensure an agenda that will address the important issues facing Kansas this session," said Siegfreid.
